ttwcoY.Apr 1, 2019. Oddometer: 49. Location: Canada. Beautiful ride through Niagara wine country. It was my first time on the KTM Super Adventure S. I rode the R version a couple of days earlier but unfortunately lost the footage. Still, it was fresh in my mind so I compare the two.
If there’s one thing KTM can’t be accused of, it’s bottling it when it came to giving the 1290 Adventure the kind of performance figures that sportsbike riders would have been boasting about just a few years ago. Sure, the Austrian firm has knocked the edge off the raucous Super Duke R motor (160bhp vs 174bhp) but the power delivery from
KTM 1290 Super Adventure S is tuned for roads, capable of coping with dust that coincides with gravel and loose ground, while the ‘R’ is orientated for hardcore off-road adventurers who want and need a premium kit to withstand any landscape or terrain. Prices for the Super Adventures are not yet confirmed. CN
It’s only once we switched the aids off that it became apparent just how much drive the KTM is trying to generate. It’s a very similar setup found on the BMW GS, the new Ducati Multistrada Enduro and the KTM 1290 Super Adventure. There is no negativity to either system; electronics are in a golden age and on the KTM they perform fantastically.
